BROWNSVILLE TN (September 14, 2019): Brownsville and Haywood County will celebrate its native daughter September 27-28 during Tina Turner Heritage Days. The event brings fans together from all over the world to experience Nutbush and the area where Tina grew up. This year’s activities originate at the Tina Turner Museum on the grounds of the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center and includes a classic car show, tours and tribute concert.

“Brownsville is fortunate to have such a varied and rich musical heritage,” says Sonia Outlaw-Clark, director of the Tina Turner Museum and Delta Heritage Center, ” and it’s such a pleasure to share our rural culture with Tina fans from across the globe.”

Fans will have an opportunity to visit Nutbush, take their photos under the “Nutbush – Birthplace of Tina Turner” sign and learn about the music icon’s upbringing during a guided tour of the region on Saturday. There will also be ample time for fans to get to know each other and share stories throughout the weekend.

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical will open on Broadway this fall and tickets will be given away Friday evening during the celebration. A special announcement will be made Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., and fans not rushing home on Sunday are also invited to services at Tina’s childhood church, Woodlawn Missionary Baptist Church.

The full offerings happening throughout the weekend are:

Friday, September 27
8:30 a.m. – Mystery Tour – A day of exploring West Tennessee that takes you beyond your expectations. Pre-registration is required. Cost: $25
6 p.m. – Fan gathering and Tinaoke (Tina karaoke)

Saturday, September 28
Activities hosted at WTDHC
8 a.m. – Tennessee Trash Bash. Memorial classic car cruise in and show for vehicles dating 1985 and older. Presented by the Tennessee Trash Car Club and in memory of founder Tim Sills. No entry fee. Donations to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
9 a.m. – Heritage Demonstrations. Featuring the work of master broom maker Jack Martin and basket weavers Fran and Bedford Sorrell.
9 a.m. – Nutbush Tour. Tour of Tina’s childhood communities (Nutbush, former homes, church, etc.) Tours will depart from the WTDHC. Cost: $10
3 p.m. – Special Announcement and Art Unveiling
7 p.m. – “Nutbush…One More Time” Tribute Concert. A special fan dance tribute to the “Queen of Rock” followed by Rita Perry and the Music Highway Band in concert. Outdoor concert is free and on the grounds of the Delta Heritage Center.

Sunday, September 29
7:30 a.m. – Breakfast. A continental breakfast and gathering as fans prepare to travel home.
9:20 a.m. – Woodlawn Missionary Baptist Church service (Tina’s former place of worship). Fans will gather at the WTDHC and carpool.
