BROWNSVILLE TN (AUGUST 24, 2016):

(Photo): The MRI Dancers will perform interpretive dance using colorful ribbons and timbrels during Brownsville’s first non-denominational Gospel Jubilee Saturday, September 3, at the Delta Heritage Center. Seven gospel groups will perform during the free evening event.

Brownsville will host its first Gospel Jubilee Saturday, September 3. The evening concert will feature area choirs, groups and interpretive dancers. Beginning at 6 p.m., the free outdoor event will be held on the grounds of the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center in Brownsville. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs or enjoy bleacher seating. Concessions will be available.

“Jubilee is a Biblical term that refers to sounding a trumpet or horn to signify a celebration, and that’s what we want to do in Brownsville,” says Delta Heritage Center Director Sonia Outlaw-Clark. “We want to ‘sound the trumpet’ and bring our region together to celebrate and rejoice.”

Seven acts are scheduled to perform for the inaugural event including Brownsville’s Tabernacle CME Church Choir. Known throughout West Tennessee, the choir performs a cappella as well as with accompaniment and range in age from six to 62.

Two trios will perform. Affirmation is based in Jackson, Tenn., and consists of Brian Dunn,. Adele Ellington and Alan Tignor. The group specializes in Grand Ole Opry style gospel. His Voice, a Ripley, Tenn., based group, is known for their strong harmony and Southern gospel. Members of this group are Mitch Platz (who will also serve as the evening’s emcee), Candace Manness and Larry Kelly.

Memphis’s Divine Vision is a quartet of ladies who enjoy performing together and sharing their favorite hymns. Brownsville’s Amy Barcroft and Liz Rankins will perform original gospel songs as well as country gospel renditions. A capella artist Lollie Mann, of Brownsville, is known for her deep clear voice and soulful spirituals.

Providing a special treat for attendees is a group of young dancers from the Brownsville church Ministro de Reconciliación Internacional (MRI). These four young ladies will perform interpretive dance moves to Hispanic worship hymns using colorful ribbons and timbrels.
