Brownsville presents Summer Jamz weekend

BROWNSVILLE TN (JULY 2, 2015): The music is cranking up in Brownsville this month with the addition of a new music fest called Summer Jamz. The four-day event will feature live music beginning with a Blues Jam Thursday, July 16 and ending with a gospel concert Sunday, July 19. Other activities will also include a motorcycle rally, tours of Dunbar Carver Museum and the MindField, and lots of food and shopping.

The festival opens Thursday evening, 6 p.m., with Jammin’ at Mr. Jimmy’s, an open Blues jam where everyone is invited to bring their instruments or voice and join in. The West Tennessee Blues Society hosts this event at Jimmy’s Farmers Market, 40 North Washington, just off the square. Mr. Jimmy’s also cooks up burger, fish and more for attendees to enjoy.

The Ann Marks Performing Arts Center is the site for Friday night’s 7 p.m., performance of Brownsville Rootz. Presented by the Brownsville Arts Council, this event will feature some of Brownsville’s most talented performers sharing their favorite songs and skits.

Saturday is filled with activities all over town. Main Street Brownsville will present tours of the MindField with artist Billy Tripp beginning at 10 a.m. Tours will be offered on the hour until 2 p.m. Dunbar-Carver Museum will also be offering tours from 10-2. Select restaurants will be serving up live music with lunch and retailers in the Main Street district will be having sidewalk sales and more.

Motorcycle enthusiasts can join the Summer Jamz rally at the Delta Heritage Center Saturday morning. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Bikers will follow routes and visit destinations along the Cotton Junction Trail to collect points before checking back in at the Center at 3 p.m.

A “Blues, Soul and Rock’n Roll” concert begins at 3 p.m., on the porch of the Sleepy John Estes home and features Red Thomas and the Blues Patrol, Amy Black presenting her Muscle Shoals Sessions, Little Boys Blue, John Zawad, Genre, Under the Radar and Kickin’.

Summer Jamz will conclude on Sunday with Prayz in the Park, a gospel concert featuring Christ Church Praise Band and Clifton Smith and the Voices. Bring your lawn chairs to Tamm Park and enjoy from 2-4 p.m.
