Delta Heritage Center presents Flashlight Night
BROWNSVILLE TN (October 23, 2015): The Delta Heritage Center in Brownsville, Tenn., is celebrating childhood and Halloween in a new way this year with “Flashlight Night at the Boo-seum.” Area children, ages 12 and under, are invited to trick or treat beginning at 4 p.m., Friday, October 30. Then at 5 p.m., the lights go out and children and adults can experience the museums in a totally different way – by flashlight. Trick or treating is free. Flashlight tours of the museum will be conducted from 5-7 p.m. and cost is $1 per person.
“We are calling it a Boo-seum, but there will not be anything too scary for little children,” says Center director, Sonia Outlaw-Clark. “We really just want people to experience the museum in a new way and what better way than in the dark.”
Each child will be allowed to take a mini-flashlight on the tour and ask questions about what they are seeing. Costumed guides will share fun stories about items and displays in the museum. Tours will last about 30 minutes and will include the Sleepy John Estes home and Tina Turner Museum. Children are encouraged to dress in their favorite costumes for the event and parents are invited to participate, too.
Proceeds from the night will go to the Friends of the Delta Heritage Center, a non-profit dedicated to the support of the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center and its mission to preserve and interpret West Tennessee history. The Friends provide support, service and recognition to the Center through volunteer and fundraising efforts for historic preservation and exhibition, and the presentation of cultural events and activities.
For more information about the event, contact the Center at 731-779-9000 or visit online at www.WestTNHeritage.com.
