BROWNSVILLE TN (Thursday, November 24, 2016)
The Brownsville-Haywood County Rescue Squad has sponsored Brownsville’s annual Christmas Parade for many years. Each year it recognizes a local resident who is known for their unwavering support and contributions to the community. With this in mind, the Squad is proud to announce this year’s parade Grand Marshal is Robert Fawcett. Fawcett will light the Community Christmas Tree at 5 p.m., Saturday, December 3, on the courthouse lawn and then lead the parade at 6 p.m.
Fawcett was born and raised in Hardeman County, Tenn., and graduated from Bolivar High School before making Haywood County and Brownsville his home. He was married to Martha Spencer, his wife for more than fifty years, and has two children, Frank Fawcett and Sherry Smith, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Fawcett’s career began at Ross Manufacturing and Powell Lumber Company before joining the team at Brownsville Utility Department where he retired after 28 years of service. A lifelong member of Brownsville Baptist Church, his many church activities includes song leader, Sunday school teacher and serving as secretary of Deacons. Fawcett also volunteered as a food distribution volunteer.
He is a long-time member of the Brownsville-Haywood County Rescue Squad and was voted Squad Member of the Year in 2012.
Other Christmas activities planned for Dec. 3, include a Children’s Parade at 2 p.m. at the courthouse. Santa will lead the children who are invited to dress in festive clothing and bring your bikes, tricycles, scooters, wagons and more to ride or push in the parade. Santa will then remain on the square for pictures and visits.
Mrs. Claus will present Story Time at 3 p.m. She will be reading classics and other well known books to the children. Dress warmly as you gather to hear these holiday tales. Live music will begin at 4 p.m., from the main stage and will feature local singers and children’s groups, such as the Haywood Elementary Show Choir and the HHS Show Choir. The Community Christmas Tree lighting will be a 5 p.m., followed by more music and the parade start at 6.
Everyone is invited to this free event. For more information, contact Squad Captain Don Dinkins or any squad member.
