BROWNSVILLE TN (SEPTEMBER 21, 2015):

The Memphis Letter Carrier Band has been performing nationally for over 100 years. On Sunday, September 27, at 3 p.m., the 20 piece brass band will be performing in Brownsville at the Delta Heritage Center. The band is one of the longest performing bands in the country.

John Robinson Love was born in Memphis in 1863. He grew up with a great interest in and talent for music. After joining the Postal Service, Love founded the Memphis Letter Carriers Band. The band was famous around the nation and often played for government functions and civic affairs.

The Memphis Letter Carrier Band still performs for the National Association of Letter Carriers conventions as well as local civic functions and charities. The band most recently performed for the National Association of Letters Carriers Convention in Philadelphia. They have also performed in locations such as Orlando, Chicago, Honolulu, Anaheim and Washington D.C.
