Awards Event To Honor Tina Turner, Independent Artists with a Red Carpet Event

JACKSON, TN (September 28, 2019) – The third annual Tennessee Music Awards event is scheduled for October 7, in Jackson, Tenn., at the University of Memphis Lambuth. Tina Turner will be honored with the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award during the festivities. The special announcement was made Saturday, September 28, during Brownsville annual Tina Turner Heritage Days.

The event with feature many independent artists during the VIP Pre-Show and subsequent Tennessee Music Awards show and ceremony. Last year, honorees included Carl Perkins, and W.S. “Fluke” Holland, with the Perkins family, and Fluke himself, in attendance.
Tina Turner is a Tennessee native. Born Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee. She began her career in 1958 as a featured singer with Ike Turner’s Kings of Rhythm, first recording under the name “Little Ann”. Her introduction to the public as Tina Turner began in 1960 as a member of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue with the single “A Fool In Love.”

Often referred to as “The Queen of Rock and Roll”, Tina Turner’s awards and accolades include:
• Ike & Tina Turner induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
• 1993 Legend Award World Music Awards.
• In 1996, Turner received the accolade of Légion d’Honneur from the French education minister.
• In 2004, People ranked her 1985 performance of “What’s Love Got to Do With It” as one of the Grammy Awards’ top moments, as did Time in 2009.
• Turner received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2005.
• In 2008, Turner was listed in 17th place on Rolling Stone’s list “The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time”. Rolling Stone also ranked Turner 63rd on their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.
• Inducted into the Soul Music Hall of Fame in 2014 and into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2019.
• In the United Kingdom, Turner is the first female artist to have a top 40 hit in six consecutive decades; she has had a total of 34 UK top 40 hits.
• Turner has her own stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and on the St. Louis Walk of Fame.
• Turner has held a Guinness World Record for the largest paid audience (180,000 in 1988) for a solo performer. She has also sold more concert tickets than any other female performer in history.
• Turner has won a total of 12 Grammy Awards. These awards include eight competitive Grammy Awards; she holds the record with four awards given for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. Three of her recordings, “River Deep – Mountain High” (1999), “Proud Mary” (2003), and “What’s Love Got to Do with It” (2012), are in the Grammy Hall of Fame. She also received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. Turner is the only female artist to garner concurrent Grammy nominations for pop, rock, and R&B.
