Boys & Girls Club

The boys & girls club of Jackson/Brownsville unit opened in November 2000 at Jefferson Courts & Mr. Jacob Bond was the unit director. In 2003 it relocated to Carver High School and remained there until 2015 under the leadership of several great directors. In June of 2014 Coach Ray Jones became the unit director as the club moved to the current location at 127 N. Grand.

The club is under the direction of the Broad Board in Jackson and also a local advisory board in Brownsville. Mr. Gem Bell is the local chair along with other dedicated board members who spend countless hours volunteering to make sure our youth have a safe environment. They spend time and money to do fundraisers to help keep the club operating because the club operations by donations and grants.

Programming consist of many activities to advance the character and education of our members. The community is blessed to have a highly qualified staff of dedicated caring professionals who give their best daily. We have power each day to enhance their mental skills as well as mentoring programs, sports activities, recreation, cultural dance and music, arts and crafts, computer lab and field trips just to name a few. We always participate in National Out, Christmas parades and have yearly community programs at the club performed by the members. We keep our doors open after hours by engaging the community in an annual youth basketball league. In addition to the many other activities we offer fun summer camps yearly. Youth who are disadvantaged are not turned away because we provide scholarships for those who cannot afford the $40.00 yearly fee and $15.00 weekly summer fee.

The Boys & Girls club is one of the greatest jewels in our community because it is directly connected to the future of our city and nation. Many great people in America credit their successful start to the Boys & Girls Club of America.
