(NASHVILLE, TN), September 17, 2021 — State Senator Page Walley (R-Bolivar) and Representative Chris Hurt (R-Halls) said today that the Carnegie Library in Brownsville is set to benefit from a $54,688 Historic Development Grant. The grant to rehabilitate the library was awarded by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development under a program approved by the General Assembly in April 2021.

“We are very pleased to get this grant,” said Senator Walley. “These funds will greatly help in the rehabilitation and preservation of the library.”

“It’s so important that we preserve and celebrate these historic buildings to promote economic growth in Brownsville,” Rep. Hurt added. “This grant will make the Carnegie Library a centerpiece of our community. Congratulations to all who worked hard to secure these funds.”

The Historic Grant Development Program encourages communities and private developers to invest in buildings that have contributed to a community’s history but now sit idle. These buildings can once again contribute to the economy through job creation and commercial opportunities.

“Brownsville has a rich history which should be preserved for future generations,” added Sen. Walley. “I am pleased these dollars are available to assist in this local project and congratulate our local officials who helped secure this grant.”
