Alexander to sign new book April 7

BROWNSVILLE TN (March 28, 2016):
Civil War soldiers and a sniper, a con artist posing as a Baptist preacher, an aviator and his pet lion; all are characters who laughed, cried and shaped the history of West Tennessee. These stories, as told by Harbert Alexander Sr., are compiled into his latest book entitled “Soldiers, Saints and Sinners: Stories of Long Ago.” Alexander will share some of these stories and sign books Thursday, April 7, 4-6 p.m., at the Delta Heritage Center in Brownsville.

“I hope you’ll come away with something new to think about,” says Alexander of his book, “and perhaps you’ll reach the last page and say ‘Well, I never knew that.'”
Alexander takes you from pioneer days to more recent times in his unique storytelling fashion. Historic figures such as doctors, entrepreneurs, game wardens, football coaches and musicians fill the pages. These characters helped shape the history of West Tennessee and in some instances the nation and world.

Alexander is a Jackson, Tenn., native who has spent a large portion of his life in the banking industry but always had a knack for history and storytelling. He served as the Madison County Historian for 23 years and has authored three other books: Autumn Memories: Recollections of Fall Days Afield, Old Trails and Tales of Tennessee and Tales of Madison: Historical Sketches on Jackson and Madison County, Tennessee. He is also active in historic preservation and has been an amateur archaeologist for more than 50 years.
