Job Title: Concrete Utility Worker
Reports To: Public Works Director
Terms of Employment: 12 Months
Hours Work: Shift Work

Job Summary:

This employee performs a variety of manual labor and light equipment operation tasks in the area of street and right of way maintenance. They will be responsible for designing and building forms, pouring concrete, then spreading and smoothing concrete using the proper tools. The employee is under the supervision of the Public Works Director. Instructions to the employee are generally detailed and specific.

Essential Functions:
• Build, erects and align forms for various concrete structures.
• Setting up forms and pouring concrete with minimum supervision
• Performs duties of cutting and placing reinforcing wire mesh, tie rebar, preparing appropriate sand and cement mixtures and placing, pouring and rough leveling of concrete.
• Performs a variety of general labor duties such as painting, mowing, filling potholes, weed trimming, and general street maintenance.
• Loads and unloads dirt, gravel, trash, and other debris.
• Repairs streets, curbs, and sidewalks.
• Paints street markings and repairs/installs street signage.
• Removes debris from street rights-of-ways, catch basins, drainage ways and other City property.
• Operates mowing machines and other small machinery, including welding equipment.
• Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment such as a knuckle boom or snowplow.
• Assists with parks and cemetery grounds and facility maintenance.
• Cleans equipment and tools.
• Performs routine maintenance on machinery, equipment, and tools.
• Performs related work as required.

Required Knowledge and Abilities:
• Ability to use a variety of hand tools and small machinery such as a trowel, weed eater, chain saw, mowers etc.
• Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general maintenance and construction work.
• Ability to safely and properly operate heavy and light equipment.
• Ability to carry out instructions.

Minimum Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Tennessee driver’s license or equivalent
• Experience in performing heavy manual labor.

Physical Requirements:
• The employee will be required to lift, carry, dig, climb, bend and move moderately to very heavy objects
• Employees must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
• The employee may be exposed to fumes, chemicals, or toxic substances.
• Ability to perform strenuous tasks with your hands.
• Ability to measure accurately and read specifications.

Working Conditions:

Employee spends most time outdoors, frequently exposure to extreme heat or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Also, possible exposure to uncomfortable noise levels, and exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin irritation.
